Ich glaube, dass diese Übersetzung völlig falsch ist. Die Form "llegue" is Konjunktiv, und bedeutet, "wenn er/sie/es kommt". Ausserdem, "estoy tomando una copa", heisst, "ich trinke mir gerade etwas", oder "ich nehme mir gerade ein Glas", aber im Sinne von ich mache das während die Zeit ein bisschen vergeht, also mache dir keine Sorgen, ich habe was ruhiges zu tun während ich auf die richtige Zeit warte.

Vielleicht "wenn ich ankomme und du schläfst, rufe ich dich an." Ich glaube ich verstehe es jetzt - er wartet nicht darauf, dass sie schläft, sondern das er ankommt. Er will ihr versichern, dass er gut angekommen ist.

Yes, in Spanish that "aunque llegue y estás dormida" doesn't sound well either. It has the same result of the sentence I wrote.

The correct in Spanish would have been:
"aunque cuando llegue ya estés dormida (durmiendo)"
"even if when I get home you are already sleeping (asleep)"
