On 17 November 1970, Douglas Engelbart patented the first computer mouse. He had already invented such a mouse in 1963, after long-lasting tests of its practical use. The Engelbart's team of inventors called this device a "bug". Still, this was not the only way to control a computer - other devices that should had been fastened on the chin or nose and controled by the head movements had been tested.
The mouse won because of its simplicity and convenience.
