something's gotten hold of my heart
keeping my soul and my senses apart
something's gotten into my life
cutting it's way through my dreams like a knife
turning me up, and turning me down
making me smile, and making me frown

Bir şey kalbimi çaldı.

Bir şey kalbimi ele geçirdi.
Ruhumu ve hislerimi birbirinden ayrı tutan
Bir şey hayatıma girdi.
Rüyalarımdan bir bıçak gibi geçen
Beni alt üst eden
Beni güldüren ve kaşlarımı çattıran.

Hi, I couldn't understand this part "cutting it's way through my dreams like a knife". The intended meaning is something like "Something cut my dreams like a knife", but grammatically something is wrong, I guess. Could you please help me with it?

It should be "its" not "it's". Other than that, nothing is wrong with the English grammar.

This is a nice translation, but there are a few misunderstandings, I think.

1) "to get hold of" is not the same as to "steal" - it's more like "to hold onto", so maybe "tutaklamak" would be better.

2) The line about the dreams does not say it entered my dreams - it says it cut through my dreams.

3) "turning me up and turning me down" is more like "mixing me up" - it comes from the expression "upside down", I think.

Thanks for your explanations Laura.

1) "something's gotten hold of my heart"--> I think this part would be more accurate as "Birşey kalbimi ele geçirdi" rather than "Birşey kalbimi tutukladı."

2) "Rüyalarım sayesinde/yoluyla bir bıçak gibi/misali yolunu kesen". What do you think about it?

3) I thought "turning me up and turning me down" was translated accurately, but you know this language better than me; so if you say so, then it is OK.
Then, is this right: "Beni allak bullak/alt üst eden" ?

1) good

2) not so good - It cuts through my dreams like a knife - where did you get "sayesinde/yoluyla" and "yolunu"? I would say something more like this: Rüyalarımdan bıçak gibi geçiyor. But I'm not sure. How would you say "It cuts through a metal pipe like a knife through butter"? That's the meaning of "cutting through" here.

3) Yes - alt üst.

But it says "cutting its way through my dreams like a knife".

I am not sure about "Rüyalarımdan bıçak gibi geçiyor.". I guess it doesn't convey the correct meaning.

To cut ones way means to cut a path through an obstacle.

Then "Rüyalarımdan bıçak gibi geçen" is fine. Thank you so much for your help Laura.
