| | What about "Heute habe ich die Nostalgie aus meinen Augen fließen gelassen"? |
| | 4 Septembrie 2012 20:52 |
| | A suggestion: insted of "I let" - change it to "I allowed" due to both the word itself but even more so because of the Brazilian culture not to cry... Also, even though I can't put my finger on the exact word - "nostalgia" to me doesn't give me the feeling of "loss & yearning" as saudade implies.

| | I agree with you with respect to both suggestions, Mats.
The problem with the second one is that "saudade" --as far as I know- has not a precise equivalent in any other language. It's a very exclusive Brazilian word (and rather more than a word… )
[Anyway, I'm afraid that we have missed the right page. This one is for the German translation ]

| | Good proposal, Alex. But, then, we ought to correct also the Portuguese text (that IMHumbleOpinion is not "perfectly" written in "pretérito perfeito" ).
Not sure of it, of course (Lilian will tell): but if this were Catalan, "estaria errada en pretèrit perfecte [això segur!]"
"Vull dir --ja m'entens- que la traducció de Vesna J. resulta prou literal aquest cop. Jo la trobo OK."

| | @Lev
I know that you learnt Portuguese from your wife, so you know better for sure... But I seem to remember that in Brazilian Portuguese it is very common to use forms such as "eu fiz" instead of "eu tenho feito" (a bit like American English, since you can hear "I just did" way more often than "I have just done" ).
Does this rule applies to German too? Are simple and compound preterite often interchangeable?

To you, Lene, I could say (and in fact, say) with respect to German more or less the same that I've just said to Alex with respect to Brazilian. Even if my story with German is completely different (and I will tell to you elsewhere )
Anyway, in this case..., well, I will think a bit more about your phrasing tomorrow. I’m too tired now.
Best regards!

| | Alex, in German it´s usual to say "Ich habe fließen lassen" (not "...gelassen) or "Ich ließ fließen."
Best regards,
