Lettre de louanges

Cher Monsieur,

I have replaced "child" with "son".

Is the comma after "July, 2007..." necessary?

You can have a look here if you want and decide for yourself:

Dates

There are many ways of punctuating dates:

July 4th, 1998
July 4th 1998
4th July, 1998
4th July 1998
Tuesday July 4th, 1998
Tuesday July 4th 1998
Tuesday, July 4th, 1998
etc.

Be consistent!

If you do not use the abbreviations 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. then you should always use a comma if the date format places the day of the month and the year next to each other:

July 4, 1998

If the date is written with figures, you can use full stops, hyphens or slashes to separate the figures:

12/09/1998
04-09-98
14.2.98

In referring to years, an apostrophe may be used to indicate missing words or numbers:

In the 'nineties
in '68

However, this is often omitted.

To write 'the nineteen nineties' in figures:

the 1990s
or the 1990's

(the first is more modern, and more logical).

We don't have a fixed date here, only the month and the year. But that's OK.
