Ultimi messaggi | | | | | 25 Gennaio 2007 16:21 | | | Please for spanish, just translate : "it's like puzzle solving" litteraly, this required translation not being a transcription from an expression, but a simple translation at its first degree. | | | 26 Gennaio 2007 06:09 | | | What I don't understand is, don't you guys have your own words for "puzzle"? Why do French, Spanish, and Greek use the English word "puzzle"? | | | 26 Gennaio 2007 09:26 | | iriniNumero di messaggi: 849 | Oh c'mon kafetzou! Do you have your own word for "philosophy" ?
We all borrow words from each other.
Puzzle can be translated as Ï€Ïόβλημα, αίνιγμα, γÏίφος, μυστήÏιο etc but not when it means a jigsaw puzzle. I always took the expression we talk about to be about this kind of puzzle (in my mind it's usually followed by sth like "find the corner piece" which we don't translate, just transcribe. | | | 26 Gennaio 2007 14:49 | | | This is why I asked - I didn't mean a jigsaw puzzle. I meant a crossword puzzle, or a word jumble puzzle, or something like Text Twist - a puzzle that requires brain work. Does παζλ only mean a jigsaw puzzle in Greek? If so, it's not the right translation. | | | 26 Gennaio 2007 15:40 | | iriniNumero di messaggi: 849 | A crossword has a word of its own, σταυÏόλεξο
A word jumble puzzle will probably called a scramble
There's no general word for brain puzzles UNLESS you like Ï€Ïοβλήματα λογικής. But that's the right translation for "brain puzzles" and not just "puzzles" and does not include crosswords. I do hope I make some sense! | | | 27 Gennaio 2007 01:18 | | | Hmm. This is why I asked to have this phrase translated - I just wasn't sure how to say it in the other languages I speak. I don't know what the solution is here, but it's not important - it was just for my wiki page. |
