Someone else who corresponds with the author offers the translation "Sorry I kept you all waiting a bit, but I'm in the middle of moving house."
After I posted the translation request, I deduced that the second phrase ("les cartons m'appelle"; the -nt in my request is a typo) is "cardboard boxes are calling me".
Regarding context... The source is a post on a tumor survivors support group; most of the post, the part loaded with obscure medical terms, I can translate with ease.
