In a clear stream
There shot in joyful haste
The spirited trout
Across like an arrow.
I stood on the shore
And watched in sweet respite
The swim of the happy little fish
in the clear stream.
A fisherman with a rod
Stood solid on the bank
And watched with cold blood
How the little fish turned.
As long as the water was clear,
I thought, unbroken,
Would he not catch the trout
With his fishing rod.
But finally the time proved
For the thief too long. With trickery,
He made the stream murky,
And quicker than I thought,
He jerked his rod up,
The little fish flopped upon it,
And I with raging blood
Looked at the betrayed one.
