-ES Cuando nos veamos
-PT Quando nos virmos
-FR Quand nous nous verrons
-IT Quando ci vedremo (?) | | | 16 January 2008 02:13 | | | Guilon:
As far as I know...
Vedere
- congiuntivo presente = che ci vediamo
quando ci vediamo
se ci vediamo
- futuro = noi ci vedremo
Am I wrong?
| | | 16 January 2008 03:21 | | guilonNumber of messages: 1549 | But that is not my point:
-ES Cuando nos veamos (present/subjunctive)
-PT Quando nos virmos (future/subjunctive)
-FR Quand nous nous verrons (future/indicative)
-IT Quando ci vedremo (future/indicative)
-EN When we see each other (present simple)
Languages don't necessarily use the same tenses and moods to express the very same idea. I think (I am quite sure) that Italian uses the future tense of indicative mood where Spanish uses present of subjunctive to express this specific construction. | | | 16 January 2008 03:33 | | | The case of English : When we see each other, represents the present subjunctive, not the simple present. The subjunctive forms in English (present and past)are the simple forms (present and past) with minor changes, (for example, the verb to be which may take the form "were" for all pronouns in the past subjunctive).
But the issue here is about Italian, isn't it?
So, I guess we'll have to ask the native speakers which one is the correct version...
Xini might help, but I can't CC him, please do that and we'll be sure of that once and for all. | | | 16 January 2008 03:53 | | guilonNumber of messages: 1549 | Please Xini, who is right on this one, me or lili carnavale? CC: Xini | | | 16 January 2008 10:44 | | XiniNumber of messages: 1655 | Both are correct;
quando ci vediamo is spoken
quando ci vedremo is future and more correct
vediamo in this case is indicativo, not congiuntivo, one shouldnt use the congiuntivo here.
but it's better if the two verbs agree
vediamo -> mostro
vedremo -> mostrerò | | | 16 January 2008 17:22 | | | Hey Guilon we can say it's a one-one tie.
OK, you won! Let's make the two verbs match.
Quando ci vedremo te la mostrerò.
And...please, just Lilly
