I'm not sure if it's arabic, but I think it is. It's from the song Seif Al Din, from Epica.
Here is a link to the song lyrics -->http://www.lyrics007.com/Epica%20Lyrics/Seif%20al%20din%20Lyrics.html. I don't know nothing about that language, and that is why I'm not if it is really arabic.

Hi Turkishmiss

Does it say "messenger"? I'm asking because generally the word "prophet" is associated with this type of phrase. Having said that, since this is song lyrics, it could be "messenger", so I'm just checking.

Hi Miss

Sorry I didn't get backto this straight away, connection problems as usual

It is true that the word "prophet" means "messesnger". In the context though, it is preferable to use "prophet" since it is the most usual one. If you like, we can note the alternative under the translation.

I've set a poll.

Don't you think that it is better to say "and Mohammed is Allah's messenger"
Because they seem to be disconnected sentences.
Plus, the word "messenger" is more accurate in this sentence.

Hello, my sight just fell on your conversation in forums. I have been studying Islam for quite some time and though my Arabic is poor, I'm sure that the word used here is definitely by both meaning and custom "messenger" and not "prophet".

I agree with you Tantine in your understanding, generally speaking Prophet would mean Messenger, also Prophet may be clearer in the English context. Though in Arabic, Messenger is conventionally used for a Prophet who was carried a Holy Book/Scripture (Prophets are revealed to but not necessarily with complete Holy Books), which is why it is being the most widely chosen word in translating into English, although English speakers are not exactly aware of the difference in meaning:

(I bear witness that) there is no god but (one) God (Allah is His name and not an attribute) and that Muhammad is the messenger of God (or Muhammad is His messenger).

ان النص الاصلي عربي ولكن كتب بحروف انكليزية ,اعتراضي في هذه الترجمه على كلمه allah يجب استبدالها بما يقابلها في الانكليزيه اي بكلمة "God"

This translation is from the Arabic language: .لا إله إلا الله، محمد رسول الله
This is its transliteration : La Illah Illallah, Mohammed rasul Allah.
This is its translation into English language: There is no God but Allah, Mohammed is the messenger of Allah.
Note: messenger – رسول
Note: prophet – نبي

Shouldn't we say "Allah's messenger"?, as I thought "of" was used for objects or animals.
eg : "top of the stairs", "planet of the apes" and so on...I thought thus " 's " was used for human beings, and moreover for god(s).
But I'm not an English native speaker, and I'm just asking.

Hi Francky,

Both forms are possible. Actually, in this case (referring to God/Allah) we usually say: "Mary, Mother of God", "The messenger of Allah" etc.

About the use of "'s" is not only for human beings, but also for "living things" (like a dog, for example: The dog's tail), for cities (London's underground), countries (Brazil's rain forest), institutions, organizations, and a number of other cases.

I hope it helped

Don't worry Miss, I wasn't arguing on whether it has to be "messenger" or "prophet" here, I was just asking a precision on whether it had to be "Allah's" or "of Allah", which one of the two was the most correct in English, and Lilian just replied my post. I'm not on a position where I can tell whether "prophet" or "messenger" is the right translation, although IMO both convey the meaning.
