Friends are a very important part of most people's lives. Who can understand you better than a friend? Well, my best friend is a simple boy named George with big dreams and because he is a high flyer person I'm pretty sure he will succeed in everything he wants. George is a chatterbox and sometimes drives me crazy, but I accept because he's my friend. I'm not going to describe him physically because it counts less. |

Последно мнение | | | | | 15 Март 2012 12:43 | | | What does "hayflayer" mean It seems this term does not exist in English. "High flyer" would mean something into French (eg : un personnage de haut vol" ), but I don't even know whether it is used in English.
CC: lilian canale kafetzou | | | 15 Март 2012 17:08 | | | I have never heard of "hayflayer", but this text says "high flayer", which certainly looks like it should be "high flyer". On the other hand, "high flyer" is a noun, and a native speaker of English would never put it before "person" - we would just say, "He is a high flyer." On the other hand, that word does not fit into this context - a high flyer is a risk-taker who has already achieved quite a lot of success, not a boy who is still in school! So I'm curious as to what this writer meant. | | | 15 Март 2012 17:11 | | | There are other indications that this is not written by a native speaker: "I accept" should be either "I accept him" or "I accept this"; also, "chatterbox" is usually used to describe a girl or woman - it's quite uncomplimentary when used to describe a boy. | | | 16 Март 2012 12:59 | | | Thanks Laura! I didn't pay too much attention when typing(hayflayer), I just wanted to reproduce what had been submitted by the requester.
As an expert in English, would you accept this text to be submitted in "meaning only" or should we ask the requester either to edit her text in a significative way, or to submit an equivalent of the above text in her mother-tongue
| | | 16 Март 2012 17:57 | | | No - I think we can accept it, but highflayer should be changed to high flyer. I'll do that. | | | 16 Март 2012 17:59 | | | Maybe you should send her a note telling her we'll accept the translation request this time, but that in the future she should submit her translation requests in her own language, assuming she wrote this.
She claims she can read French. | | | 16 Март 2012 21:27 | | | Thanks Laura!
I'll set the text in "meaning only"
