Soldati caduti
Text
Submitted by Mattissimo
Source language: Italijanski

Foglie che cadono nella notte
Fiori che appassiscono
Vittime innocenti
Non ne abbiamo mai abbastanza

Pioggia di fine settembre
Lacrime di una madre
Un figlio
Mai tornato a casa

Il vento porterà via la tristezza
Il sole guarirà le anime
Ma nessuno cancellerà mai
Il loro ricordo
Remarks about the translation
Questa poesia è stata scritta da me stesso. Si prega di utilizzare l'inglese britannico.

Title
Fallen warriors.
Translation
Engleski

Translated by Raruto
Target language: Engleski

Leaves falling down in the night
Flowers that wither
Innocent victims
We have never had enough of that

Rain of the end of September
A mother's tears
A son
Never come back home

The wind will sweep away the sadness
The sunshine will cure the souls
But nobody will ever blot out
Their memory
Remarks about the translation
"wilt" instead of "wither" is also correct.

Hi Raruto,

leafs ---> leaves
What about "withering flowers" instead of "flowers that wither"?

at the end --> of the end

Hi lilian canale.

You're right, in good brittanic english the plural of "leaf" is "leaves". I'm just used to using the form "leafs" sorry for the "mistake"

I thought about translating "Fiori che appassiscono" as "withering flowers" but I've finally prefered "flowers that wither" because it keeps the beat of the original sentence. And it doesn't sound bad to me, so...

After reading my translation again, I definitely prefer "of the end" in this context
I'm correcting it, thanks for your precisions

Non ne abbiamo mai abbastanza >>> why the past tense was used? We never have enough of them (or even we will never...)

"Non ne abbiamo mai abbastanza" => "We do not have enough (of that)"

Siberia : I use the present perfect because the sentence reports something actual in the past AND still actual in the present. In English, the present perfect must be used in this case.

Jedi2000 : You're forgetting "mai" (never) which must be translated
