Titel
Aşkınla Beni Öldürdün
Tekst
Opgestuurd door payekhali
Uitgangs-taal: Turks

Aşkınla beni öldürdün
Alemi bana güldürdün
Bana vermediÄŸin o zalim kalbini
Söyle ellere kaç paraya verdin

Çalınsın sazlar gönül eğlensin
Bize değmeyenler bin yaşasın

Gelin gidelim mutlu kalalım
Sanma ki saadet cepte paradır
Beni küçük görüp aleme kaçtın
Elbet bu gidişin dönüşü vardır

Titel
You have killed me with your love
Vertaling
Engels

Vertaald door onurkayabasi
Doel-taal: Engels

You have killed me with your love
You made people laugh at me
Tell me, how much money did you get from strangers
By giving your cruel heart, you didn't give me?

Let the reeds play, let the heart enjoy
Let the ones that do not hurt us live

Come on! Let's always stay happy
Don't think that happiness is the money in the pocket
You have patronized me and ran away to other people
Of course, there is a return of this going

Hi onurkayabasi,

Your translation has several differences with the French version.

Can you re read it and try and eliminate the mistakes?

Poetry is extremely difficult to translate, so if needs be use poetic license and convey the meaning rather than the words themselves.

Hi Tantine,

I don't know French and i used the Turkish version to translate into English.

I'm so sorry about that.

You're absolutely right actually, translating a poetry into another language may make poetry lose its meaning, and translating a translated version of poetry may cause double lose.

Hi all

Tantine, who translated this text into French is me but Francky made lots of corrections to make it sound more natural in French and we expressly marked it as "Meaning only". So, I can say that onurkayabasi's translation is closer to the meaning of the Turkish text than its French version.

I just would like to add a few things. First, this sentence should be changed:

-Let the ones that do not touch us live.

The verb used in the Turkish text is "to touch" but it has a figurative meaning, so we'd better change it like this:

- Let the ones who don't hurt us live.

Also,

- Of course, there is a return of this (means your) going

- Come on, let's go, let's stay happy.

Except these things, his translation fits the Turkish text. Hope my explanations are helpful

Hi,

There are some major meaning differences between the French and English text, but I suppose the general idea is expressed.
