| | Hi turkishmiss,
I think; instead of "to send new photos" it should be "to put new photos" according to the text. (he must have talking about putting them on Facebook etc)
And instead of "a long time ago I was..." , "I was a soprano in an amateur polyphonic chorus for a long time."
Because"long time" is a process of his being a soprano. |

| | Hi Lilian,
Thank you, but I guess Cheescake is right so I have to edit once more, may I? |

| | sondan birinci cümlede send diil de put kullanılmalı bir zaman future(near)tense olmalı.yani şöle demeli ı m going to put them ... |

| | The meaning will change, but if you are sure...go ahead! |

| | Çocukların her ikisi de 22 aylık gibi belirtilmiş. |
| | 1 Helmikuu 2009 18:35 |
| | I agree with cheesecake.
but soprano is a woman.
and
"THEY ARE 22 MONTHS OLD." means they are twin.It is possible but not in this text. |
| | 1 Helmikuu 2009 21:38 |
| | Instead of "I HAVE DONE THE TRANSLATION." shouldn't it be "I HAVE THE TRANSLATION DONE."? She is not translating it by herself. |
| | 1 Helmikuu 2009 23:15 |
| | I think minuet is certainly right with what he says. |
| | 1 Helmikuu 2009 23:45 |
| | Yes Miss, what Minuet says makes sense.
But...merdogan, I didn't understand what you mean with "they are twin s, It is possible but not in this text"
Why not? CC: merdogan |

| | Dear lilian,
if we use the word "twins" in Turkish it means, we have twin more than one.
I suppose , Efe is 22 months old. If not, she has to write "both".
|
| | 2 Helmikuu 2009 00:14 |
| | But merdogan, the text says:
I HAVE TWO CHILDREN, A BOY AND A GIRL, NAMED EFE AND DURU. THEY ARE 22 MONTHS OLD.
I understand that both children are 22 months old, therefore they are twins.
Or does it say a different thing in the original? CC: merdogan |
| | 2 Helmikuu 2009 00:41 |
| | Dear lilian,
The translation says not the original. Perhaps it will be better to write this in remarks field.
On the other side "twin" is also plural. If we say "twins" it means for me that we have "twin" more than one.

| | I'm sorry merdogan, what you are saying doesn't make sense to me.
Handyy, Kafetzou, could any of you help us here? CC: handyy kafetzou |

| | 22 AYLIK EFE VE DURU ADINDA BİR ERKEK BİR KIZ ÇOCUĞA SAHİBİM.
Literally, "22-month old Efe- and Duru-named one boy and one girl child I have".
I think that what merdogan is saying is that the writer did not specify that they are BOTH 22 months old - only that Efe is. But I think it's implied, so I think the translation is fine as it is. If Handyy agrees with merdogan, then I suppose the translation could be as follows:
"I have two children, a 22-month-old boy named Efe and a girl named Duru."
The only problem with that is that it implies that the girl is NOT 22 months old, which the Turkish original does not do - it instead leaves it up to the reader to interpret. |

| | BTW, there are several other errors in the English:
I HAVE THE TRANSLATION DONE --> I HAVE HAD A TRANSLATION DONE
I'M WORKING IN A BOOKSTORE --> I WORK IN A BOOKSTORE
THERE IS EVERYTHING, --> WE HAVE EVERYTHING: [I know that she doesn't own the bookstore, but we would still say it this way.]
PHOTOGRAPHIES --> PHOTOGRAPHS
TO PUT NEW PHOTOS --> TO PUT NEW PHOTOS UP (or TO UPLOAD NEW PHOTOS)
I WILL PUT THEM --> I WILL PUT THEM UP (or I WILL UPLOAD THEM)
Also, I would add "AS AN AMATEUR" after the sentence about singing in a chorus, because she said it as an afterthought in the original.

| | Karşıdaki kişi ana dili İngilizce olan biriyse çeviride kullanılan dil ona yanlış gelecektir. Daha farklı ifadeler kullanılabilir. Concerning the photoghraphies yerine As to the photos gibi, kısaca daha akıcı bir çeviri olabilirdi. |

I WAS A SOPRANO IN A POLYPHONIC CHORUS FOR A LONG TIME, AS AN AMATEUR. |
