In September 1977 I received the photograph from Abkhazia and in February 1978 the plaster mould of a piece of calcareous stone with a fragment of the engraving of the Ashuysky (ancient Abkhazian-Abazian-Ubykh) inscription.

Thank you for validating my translation so promptly, but after reading it again, I would like to change "letter" with "writing". Can someone edit this way, please?

"writing" simply means something written - do you mean "inscription"? That's the word that's usually used when a sentence or two in an ancient language is engraved in rock.

Well, письма is the genitive of письмo, that means letter (brief in German, not "alphabet letter" or writing. Since the first meaning is so common, I thoughtlessly wrote "letter", but in this case in English would appear as "alphabet letter", wouldn't it?
The fact is that Ashuysky language was written in a peculiar alphabet, so I really don't Know if it means "way of writing" or "insciption". Please, choose the one that you think is better.
