마지막 글 | | | | | 2008년 4월 25일 04:30 | | | just one question lilian, isnt "cause" the slang of "because?" does it mean here "because?"
thanks CC: lilian canale | | | 2008년 4월 25일 04:33 | | | Yes, I think so. | | | 2008년 7월 9일 11:48 | | | Lilian,
What is the original language you translated from?
The english translation seems a bit strange to me.
The context is unclear, which makes it very hard to understand the sentence after the comma.
Jollyo | | | 2008년 7월 9일 11:58 | | | It's a proverb and it's got no context. THE ASHES are greater than soil because THEY burned/have burned (unlike soil...). | | | 2008년 7월 9일 12:34 | | | Hi Lilian,
Thanks for your reply.
In this case I should think it should be "have burned" instead of "burned". The meaning of the whole proverb becomes more clear (and translating it to Frisian becomes easier).
Jollyo | | | 2008년 7월 9일 14:30 | | | HI Via, Hi jollyo,
Do you think editing it to "they 've burned" would solve the issue? | | | 2008년 7월 9일 17:19 | | | It's all the same to me since it is quite an old translation. If you consider it necessary - do it. | | | 2008년 7월 9일 23:46 | | | I should think so.
I will use the latter as the version to translate in Frisian...
Jollyo | | | 2008년 7월 11일 00:02 | | | ViaLuminosa,
There one other thing that I cannot understand nor translate, because I do not read any Russian
Have the ashes
1 - burned
2 - been burned
3 - been burning
?
It really makes a difference, before I translate it any further!

| | | 2008년 7월 11일 10:54 | | | This question should be directed to the English expert actually. What would you say about this, Lili? | | | 2008년 7월 11일 21:01 | | | I'm sorry, but this is a question for somebody who speaks/reads Russian...!
Jollyo | | | 2008년 7월 11일 21:27 | | | I'm absolutely sure that Lili got the meaning of this translation perfectly and I'm counting on her about the appropriate tense in English... Besides it's not Russian - it's Bulgarian. | | | 2008년 7월 11일 21:37 | | | | | | 2008년 7월 11일 22:16 | | | Let it be! |
