| | Ok, ladies...have you reached an agreement about the most suitable bridge for this line?
Or...do you think we should post Rule #7? |
| | 2010년 11월 7일 21:57 |
| | Never mind present or past, the translation could be If only/Let's hope/Lets pray/Let's wish - the guards didn't hear them.
"Hörde" is past tense OR subjunctive after a wish.(jfr. Bara du inte VORE så arg...)
But in English it has to be :"didn't hear them" |

| | agree with Lena. |
| | 2010년 11월 8일 08:01 |
| | Fine with me too!
Lena, glad you finally agreed about "hörde" (past tense or sbjv.) Anyway, I prefer to see it as past tense, don't think it's common to use subjunctive mood in "everyday language" nowadays. |

| | Oh well..it means that the suggestion on my first post (29 October 2010 12:01 ) was fine after all!
Thanks girls. I'll post the bridge under the request |

| | <Bridge by Pias, Lenab, etc>
Who is etc?
We have a proverb here "ju fler kockar, desto sämre soppa..." |
| | 2010년 11월 8일 14:44 |
| | Oh...I think that is a universal proverb since you can find those "meddlesome" creatures (like me or Lene) everywhere!!! |
| | 2010년 11월 8일 15:58 |
| | Lene/ Lilian, never meant ANYONE was meddlesome. My last post must have sounded rude I take it back!!!! There is probably a better Proverb in this case..."Ju fler kockar desto BÄTTRE soppa" |
| | 2010년 11월 8일 16:06 |
| | Come on, Pia! Being meddlesome on Cucumis is a good thing. It means we all try to help each other even if sometimes we write nonsense
|
| | 2010년 11월 8일 17:06 |
| | Yes... I know what you mean Lilian & I like that discription! That's what makes Cucumis so special. So I take back what I first took back. :P |

| | I also liked watching the thread, if you don't mind me being meddlesome! |
| | 2010년 11월 9일 07:51 |
| | I just checked that word (meddlesome), never did yesterday... I thought it meant about the same as our "medelmåtta" (meaning: to be someone not very special, just a ordinary person... it can be in in sport e.g.) But according to the Free Dictionary it's: "an interfering old woman" - that could be me too!! |
| | 2010년 11월 9일 10:29 |
| | A meddlesome person is someone inclined to meddle or interfere, to intrude into other people's affairs or business without having been asked to.
It doesn't have to be an old woman even if those are more likely to become one.
