The meaning of the translation is perfect. Still, I believe the personal touch expressed by "costume de guide" is lost....

mon costume de guide
means get in my suit or rol of guide.

Il y a une pensée humoristique dans l'idée du "costume de guide" qui est perdue dans cette traduction.

Je proposerai : "I will play the guide for you" ou quelque chose d'approchant.

Voir la discussion en cours. On perd l'idée du "costume de guide" qui est assez importante, et qu'on pourrait traduire par "I will play the guide..."

I think hanternoz has found a nice and accurate version for that "je mettrais mon costume de guide".
"I will/may/might play the guide for you" sounds perfect.

What do you think Noella?

It was only the meaning they asked for not a translation. Nevertheless it would be nice if somebody could tell how it would be said in English. It's subtleties like these that allows a language to be attractive.

Lilian,
I don't think - 'play the guide' - is proper English. It should be 'I will be your guide'.

HERE, Ian, Azitrad and I said something about this French text, and I posted a correct version from which this text is to be translated without mistake (eg : use of the future tense and not the conditional), and we talked about the metaphore in this text "je mettrai mon costume de guide", which is a way to say what Noella translated.

As it is a "meaning only", this translation is more than correct and can be validated.

OK then, let's edit with "I will be your guide", as if the metaphore isn't translatable (wouldn't make sense) in English, this is the best way to say it...

OK, then if everyone agrees I'll validate it.
