| | Hi Lilian!
I was looking at this one at the same time as you. I wanted to translate it a bit differently though. I looked at the turkish version too, and this is my suggestion:
"I was thinking that the thing we are living is a bit difficult, I told myself."
What do you think? |

| | Hi Lenab,
I don't know Turkish so I translated from Italian.
But I don't get why you think that's "I told myself"
I may be completely wrong, but I understood "mi stessi dicendo" as subjunctive (you were telling me) |

| | The Turkish text says "I told myself", and I interpreted the Italian the same way.
But I think there is a "che" to many and I would have added some commas in the italian text.
(Pensavo, mi stessi dicendo, che....)
But it seams like the Italian is the original. |

| | Sorry, Lilly, but I insist on my version that you rejected.
"I thought about myself, telling that what, we are living, is a difficult thing a bit." |

| | Hi. I don't unerstand why Lenab and Guzel want to change so much in the translation. Lilian's version seems perfect to me. |
| | 27 September 2008 18:53 |
| | If Lenab is right about the turkish version, than it is translated wrong. It is "Io pensavo che tu mi setssi dicendo che...", it is neither "I told myself", nor "I thought about myself" |

| | I agree, if Italian is the original language. But why the subjunctive mood??
The turkish text says "I told myself". |
| | 27 September 2008 19:27 |
| | I can't see any "I told myself" in the Italian original
"...che mi stessi dicendo" in latin languages that "che" comes before a subjunctive mode (past subjunctive in this case) which in English renders as Simple, Progressive or Past Perfect.
Guzel, I didn't reject your version only because of that, but also for using wrong structures. |

| | Hi Xini, could you help us here, please? CC: Xini |
| | 27 September 2008 21:59 |
| | I'm sure you are right Lilian!! The Italian text says as you've translated it. I was confused by the turkish version. Because I didn't think you used subjunctive mode after "pensare che" if there's no negation, I saw "mi stesso". |
| | 27 September 2008 21:59 |
| | Let's wait for Xini's answer. If I am right the Turkish version will have to be corrected. |
| | 28 September 2008 01:04 |
| | I suppose the Turkish version is not O.k. |
| | 28 September 2008 09:58 |
| | Lilian's explanations regarding the Italian grammar rules are right. I would add that is not only the "che" that selects a subjonctive mood, but also the meaning of the verb "pensare". |

| | Thanks for the grammar lesson!! |

I guess that will bring some work to FIGEN.

| | ok, lilian, I'll take care about it.

| | Bu çeviri " Yaşadığımızın biraz zor birşey olduğunu söylediğini düşünüyordum" anlamına gelir ve tamamen yanlıştır. Doğrusu: "While I was talking by myself, I thought that the thing that we were living was a bit difficult. |

| | correction done, dear lilian!
