Title
Everything comes to an end ...
Translation
Engels

Translated by kafetzou
Target language: Engels

Everything comes to an end, everyone is forgotten
I've forgotten how many times I loved you
What a shame - my years spent in vain
You too - forget that you loved me for nothing.
This is my last word to you, my rose. Farewell.
Remarks about the translation
NOTE: The phrase "haram olsun", which I've translated here as "What a shame", literally means "May it be haram", which means something which is forbidden. Thus another interpretation would be "may you get no benefit from them (the years)".

merdogan, how about this:

What a shame - my years were wasted
You too - forget that you loved me in vain.

kafetzou,
kafama şu takıldı:
'what a shame', 'haram olsun'a göre daha masum bir ifade. ama 'haram olsun'un ingilizcede tam karşılığı yok sanırım.
'Kahretsin!' veya 'Lanet olsun!' ifadelerinin ingilizcesi, buradaki 'haram olsun'un yerine kullanılabilirmi?

We could say, "Damn - my years were wasted," but actually, I think "what a shame" can be a bit stronger than you think. We could say "What a waste," but that's not the right meaning.

is it "Sende unut, beni yok yere sevdiÄŸini"
or
" Sende unut beni, yok yere sevdiÄŸini"

and

Haram olsun = May you get no benefit from it ?

I found that translation on Zargan's website too - I think it's 1) awkward in English, and 2) not a very accurate translation for the phrase.

it seams that we will have no end.

What does "haram olsun" really mean here? Is that the only thing in the way of this translation being passed?

it means like " to be up to no good" or as you said,"May you get no benefit from it" .
he wants to say "I gave you my years (life) but you didn't see that"."May you get no benefit from it" .

But it doesn't say "sana haram olsun" - it just says "haram olsun" - I'm confused. Serba, can you help?

By the way, "to be up to no good" is totally wrong - that means "to be doing something mischievous". I don't know how you got that one, merdogan.

if we follow up the text, he is speaking with somebody (with his love). He says her "haram olsun" .
He thought that he spent for her his years (life) but she didn't understand that.Therefor he says " May you get no benefit from it"

(by the way you are right for "to be up to no good".)

Maybe we need one of the Turkish experts to express an opinion or provide a suggestion on this one.

hi kafetzou,
I found this in a dict. I hope it will help:
haram etmek = to take the pleasure out of smth or smone.
but, don't you think, as merdogan says 'may you get no benefit from it' perhaps will be ok?
so,
'..I've forgotten how many times I loved you
my years spent in vain,
may you get no benefit from it,
you too...' ,
it's not bad...

merdogan is right.
'haram olsun' is litt a curse= 'may it be haram' = forbidden, tainted, of which no benefit can come.
damn 'em, curse 'em
i think what a shame is just as good a translation though

How about if I just put the alternative translation (which sounds a bit awkward in English) in a note underneath? I'll do that.

bence "what a shame" çok güzel olmuş.
'may you get no benefit from it' anlamı budur doğru ancak şiir olarak düşünürsek kafetzou nun yazdığı gayet şık durmuş
