Frihetsgudinnan invigdes den 28 oktober 1886 och var en gåva till USA:s folk från det franska folket som en symbol för de båda folkens vänskap till varandra under amerikanska revolutionen. Fransmännen betalade för statyn och USA betalade för piedestalen och grunden.
The Statue of Liberty was inaugurated on October 28, 1886 and was a gift to the people of USA from the people of France as a gesture of the friendship which existed between them during the American revolution. The French people paid for the statue and USA paid for the pedestal and the foundation.
