Ech, tak patrzÄ™ na Twoje konto. Grasz od samego...
Text
Submitted by FIRE FLY
Source language: Polish

Ech, tak patrzę na Twoje konto. Grasz od samego początku i ciągle jedna osadka, ledwie 250 popa. Nie, żeby sam pop miał wielkie znaczenie, ale fakt, że grasz tak długo i masz tak mało już coś znaczy.

Title
Ugh, so I look at your account. You play from the same...
Translation
English

Translated by Shaneeae
Target language: English

Ugh, so I look at your account. You have been playing from the very beginning and still one village, scarcely 250 pop. Not that pop alone had great importance, but the fact that you have played for so long and you have so little, already means something.
Remarks about the translation
It seems to be about the online game called Travian.
pop = population

Shouldn't it be "from the very beginning"?

Yes.. or "You play right from the beginning"...

OK, but my interpretation was that the speaker was surprised by the lack of progress of the addressee even though they started at the same time. Is that wrong?

Hey
I think that you were misled by the "sam" word. Even though "sam" may mean "the same", it's not what it means here.

It's a popular phrase which is used like that:
"od samego poczÄ…tku" - "from the very beginning"
"do samego końca" - "to the very end"
"na samym końcu" - "at the very end"
"na samej górze" - "at the very top"
etc.

Hi Shaneeae,

"...but the fact that you play so long and you have so little already means something."

I think that would sound better as:

"...but the fact that you have played for so long and have so little, already means something."

What do you think?

Yes, it would. But I chose not to do it that way to preserve the tense of the original.
I can change it if that's a problem.

Well...I don't know...it sounds a little wrong to me.

Sometimes we have to change the tenses in order to get a "natural" sound to the ears of the native speakers of the target language.
