Ho pots dir també en català (aquí és una frase força emprada) :

"Quatre ulls hi veuen més que dos"

Salutacions!

Hi guys!
I know " εἰμί" can behave as enclitic, but I'm not sure if we can leave the accent in here:
εἰμι-->εἰμί?

Well, after long thinking I believe it can be enclitic here (so, no accent!). My ancient Greek is just disapearing...

You did excellent job, Alex!
Lev, you can trust the translation.

I seem to remember than "εἰμι" does not need accents if the previous word is stressed on the last syllable... Does it?

Yes, this is what I tried to say. εἰμί is so-called "enclitic" so it looses its accent if a previous word is stressed on the last syllable.

I've never succeeded in learning all those terms like "enclitic", "clitic" and "proclitic"... Too difficult to remember what is what

Ok, there's another member who can read Ancient Greek...

Hi Christina!

My translation is intended to mean "I am nobody" in Ancient Greek (a quote from the Odyssey, from Polyphemus-Ulysses dialogue). Is it correct?

Many thanks in advance!

Hi Alex!

a) Yes, you are right, "εἰμι" it's enclitic here.

b) If you want to translate the quote from Odyssey, I strongly believe you should use the original phrase "Οὖτις ἐμοὶ γ' ὄνομα" (My name is Nobody). It's important to show how Cyclops got confused with the word "Οὖτις" which sounds a bit like "Odusseus" (Ulysses in Greek).

c) if you want to say "I am nobody- I am nothing- Of no importance" I believe "οὐδέν εἰμι" sounds more natural.

I believe that using the original phrase is the best!
Thanks a lot, Christina

The literal translation of "Οὖτις ἐμοὶ γ' ὄνομα" into Latin would be "Mihi nomen est Nemo", which means "My name is Nobody"

@Franck, could you please validate my translation when you have time?

Ouais! Great film based on a greater novel.

I thought as well briefly of that crazy and lascivious monk: Salvatore.
[..."Penitenciágite! Vide cuando draco venturus est a rodegarla el alma tuya!... Et il resto valet un figo seco. Et amen. ¿No?"]

Anyway: " stat rosa pristina nomine, nomina nuda tenemus."
(With this wonderful sentence the novel ends.)
