Acepto el cambio que has hecho ("at that age" => "at that time" ), pero quiero aducir que, si bien la segunda expresión es perfectamente adecuada y acaso suena mejor aquà (en parte, porque el siglo XIX nos parece relativamente cercano); utilizar "age" (a distinct period of the past, sin otras consideraciones de mayor o menor antigüedad ni duración) no es para nada incorrecto (al menos, a mi entender). Y encima se evita la reiteración de la palabra "time", que no ocurre en el original francés.
De hecho, yo cambié "at that time" -como habÃa escrito en principio- por "at that age" precisamente por esto último que te digo.
