When Atatürk often spoke about youth, he meant the idea of youth regardless of age; that is, modern ideas. This quote of his is very meaningful: "Young minded means the right-minded who see and understand the truth." Every year our May 19th Youth and Sports Festival is celebrated with athletic performances and ceremonies in every part of the country. In addition to this, May 19th has been celebrated as the "Ataturk Remembrance Day" since the year 1981. The reason for this is that Atatürk is said to have said during a speech, "I was born on May 19."
