Hi jaq,

Could you vote on this poll, please?
That would help me a lot.

I wonder if "longer" shouldn't be just "long"

The Arabic text seems incomplete. Can Francky explain what he means by من العايدين من الفايزين?

Hi Belhassen, actually I'm not the one who submitted this text in first, I just added one target-language, English, in order to give more chances for this text to be translated then from English (widely spoken worldwide) into Tamil.

The one you've got to ask about these terms in Arabic is الهدية المغلفة.

Maybe could you send her a message in Arabic and ask her what she meant, Belhassen

Thanks a lot!

Well, that was supposed to be a greeting for Eid!!
People who say it this way are most likely to be speaking with the accent of people of the Gulf.
So, من العايدين من الفايزين
Means يجعلكم من العيدين و من الفايزين
Which is a prayer wishing that the person to whom the speech was addressed would live to witness Eid again and be glorious.
But it couldn't be literally translated....So, I agree on the translators choice of:
May you live long(not longer...nothing to be compared against).
But as for the last line....I think it needs to be changed...I do not know how!!! But the last line in the source text says:
May every year turns to be good for you...
I do not know if that translation was good...but I know the original was not just: Every year...Like the translator wrote!!!!

Lilian....sorry for my late reply

What about:

"Happy Eid
May you live long
and every year
be glorious for you."?

It was my translation, I agree with your suggestion, "long" seems more correct than "longer" since there is no comparaison.
