The translation could as well be right but the source language is not Icelandic, at least not correct Icelandic. Could it be Føroyska?

This looks like Midieval orthography of Nordic, I'm not sure if it is Faroese - could be, my first language is not Faroese, it's Danish (and Icelandic). Since the text is from the 1700th century the orthography is bound to be different from modern languages anyway, so I couldn't really be sure. Has anyone got an idea?

It isn't Faroese, and we can't say it is wrong old icelandic, because Stargazer gave us a link that shows where he found it, a book written in old norse/icelandic.

Anyway, the translation annaon did is okay, since it is a meaning only translation.

Ok, so the flag is correct! But it can't be old norse, the notes tell it is a text from 1700.

Ok, so we can all agree it's from the 1700's, as Stargazer's link showed us? Is my translation accepted then or not?

Okay Pia, but if you read in that book (from 1700) it is written:

I det gamle sprog heder det:

"Sva játadi hann oc at lofarfe erkibifkupi oc hans eptirkomandi at kaupa fugla Geirfálka hvala oc gafa hauka fva fem hingal til hefir gaymt verit af hans formönnum".

If they call it "det gamle sprog" in the year 1700, then it must be old

... og skulle jeg måske tilføje, annaon´s oversættelse giver god mening i sammenhængen :-)

I'm sure you are right Bamsa! The only thing I said was that if the text is from 1700 (as written in the notes) it can't be Old Norse.
