Title
S furnace and an apparatus for manufacturing a...
Text to be translated

Source language: Engels

Smelting furnace and a device for producing a molten iron including the same.
Remarks about the translation
English speakers are welcome :o)
Please help to clear what "including the same" means in this context. It is the title of an article. Does "including the same" means that this device includes molten iron, or that the device includes the same that this furnace, or something else?

I can't figure this out without more context. It's not clear what "the same" refers to. There seems to be more in the title to the translation request, but I don't understand the connection.

Do you have the description of the device? It should be clearer there.

well, for one thing, the
...a molten iron...
suggests to me there might be a lacuna here

The text as is (minus the "a" above) would mean to me:
"A smelting furnace, and a device for producing molten iron, including the smelting furnace" (which would mean the "device" includes the smelting furnace)
Problem with this is, the image we have of a "device" in English is usually smaller than a "furnace": it'd have to be a "production line" or something, in order to "include the smelting furnace" within it...

To be honest, if it's the actual "title of an article," I suspect a non-native speaker used machine translation to put his original title into "English" for publication purposes. Happens all the time here in Japan...

What's a lacuna, Ian?

A missing part (of a text)?

Here is a part of the article, hope it will help to reveal something else:

"This work describes smelting furnace including a charging mechanism that is capable of preventing segregation and a device for manufacturing molten iron including the same."

Well, please throw my assumption above out the window...
"including the same" = including the same charging mechanism...
Lacuna!

That lacuna was in the title. The title is wrong then... or unclear...
