I'm sorry, serba, but I don't understand it in English, either! Can you explain it (again) here?

1) What is "what if you hit me"?

2) What is "that you could take him"?

3) Is "back there" back at home?

I accepted your translation, serba, but what do you think of this one?

"Oh cruel exile, what will happen when you strike? I do not have a single friend for you to take away."

I know that "exile" is a bit strong, but I'm using it more in the figurative sense than the literal here.

This translation reflects the following interpretation: The person is sad because he has no more friends - maybe they've all gone away to foreign lands. So he says to gurbet/exile, a personified force, that it doesn't matter anymore - even if it strikes again, there's no-one left to be taken away from him.

I rejected a translation into French, because she didn't mention "back" in the French text. I would like to know "who's"back at home, is it the guy who is speaking, or is it some friend who used to live with him?
Thanks, because this will help me to evaluate the next translation into French from this text.

To be honest, I'm not sure it means "back at home" - I think it means what I wrote above at 14 August 2007 06:20, but it's not totally clear.

serba, is it clear whether the speaker is the one who is away from home or whether he means that all of his friends have gone away from home?

Francky, serba says that the concept of "back home" needs to be in there, because the person who is speaking is far from home, and he's talking about the agony that being away causes, but saying that it can't hurt him anymore because he doesn't have any friends left at home (where he is not).
