What is a friskvård, Maribel? CC: Maribel |
| | 25 Oktoba 2007 13:00 |
| | Friskvård according to my dictionary means:
-taking care of your health, living in a healthy way or
-promoting health/healthy way of living or
-health care preventing illnesses (=the health care that takes place before something is wrong, advising people how to lead a healthy life)
But I wish someone who is swedish speaking would say something.... |

| | The more I am thinking about this...it might be totally correct. My mistake was not understanding gimnasio which for me meant college... so sorry. |

| | Yeap. Gimnasio here as healthy center, fitness center, also what we call (at least here in Brasil) Spa. CC: Maribel |

| | I am not sure how to translate "friskvård" but I think "fisioterapia" is better than "gimnasio" |
| | 25 Oktoba 2007 21:58 |
| | "Gimnasio" is a place where you work out to be healthy and to have your muscles bigger.
"Fisioterapia" is what kinesiologists do to make you recover from a broken bone or from an injury.
What on earth means "friskvård"? |

| | I still don't get it:
"friskvård"
is it a place?
is it an activity, a hobby?
is it a way of life?
is it a therapy?
How do you translate "friskvård" into English? I just need for someone to explain accurately what a "friskvård" is.
As for Spanish, don't bother to find the exact word, I will, as soon as I understand what this "friskvård" means.
Thank you all for your help and your patience. |

| | O que me intriga é " ir ao cuidado (vård) com a saúde (frisk)", geralmente a palavra é associada ao local em que se faz atividades que previnem o aparecimento de doenças causadas pelo ócio e a idade, portanto, nada melhor que uma academia (como nós chamamos aqui).
Talvez seja melhor eu contatar Pias (Matpigan).
E também seria de bom grado se pirulito pudesse ajudar.

| piasIdadi ya ujumbe: 8113 | I think Maribel somewhere explained it good!
It is something you do (in prevention)to make people feel good, in body OR soul to avoid illness. That can be to eat healthy, to exercise, menthal relaxing, meditation, massage, quit symptoms of stress, spend time in relaxing enviroments ,to help people quit smoking...
It can be MANY different things. Or just taking care of your self to prevent illness,
You know 'friskvård' doesn't had to be a expensive 'thing', or cost you a lot of money
... like going to the gym , deal with a expensive sport. I guess many swedes like to just be in the wide open, outdoors...doing things like walking, jogging, skiinig, skating...just hiking in the woods or mountains.
'Preventative health care' |

| | Hej pias, Jag skrev på spanska ungefär vad du skrev på engelska. Den exakta översättningen i mitt spansklexikon för "Friskvård" är "medicina preventina". Ha det bra!

Friskvård was a new word for me, I could have even thought that the writer is going first to see the school nurse and then to see some of his friends, but then I checked my dictionary and found out that it has a wider meaning. I asked two of my friends who have swedish as their native language and they have not heard of this word used for gym, in Finland. That is why I tried to raise some thoughts about this. |
