Najnovije poruke | | | | | 29 svibanj 2008 05:31 | | | جمله سوالي است | | | 29 svibanj 2008 06:23 | | | این در انگلیسی روش مرسومی برای بیان یک خواهش مؤدبانه است، و یک پرسش تلقی نمی‌شود. | | | 30 svibanj 2008 03:04 | | | | | | 30 svibanj 2008 05:20 | | | Hello, Lilian
Alavifar complains that my translation is a question, while the Persian source is a statement. I replied that this is a usual way of stating a polite request in English and is equivalent to the Persian statement.
CC: lilian canale | | | 30 svibanj 2008 13:00 | | | Well, if that is the problem, maybe you could turn "Would you be kind enough to let us know the exact date of lading, please?" into:
" Please, let me know the exact date for the lading." | | | 30 svibanj 2008 15:10 | | | The Persian source contains three polite or "honorific" elements:
1. "خواهشمند است" ("please" )
2. "در صورت امکان" ("if it is possible" )
3. "اعلام Ùرمایید" ("let me know", but in honorific form)
Your proposed sentence ("Please, let me know the exact date for the lading." ) is equivalent to ("خواهشمند است تاریخ دقیق بارگیری را اعلام کنید." ) which is a little different from the source according to the aforementioned details. I understand that making a request in question form makes it indirect and more polite. Don't you agree that my sentence may be a more accurate translation for this text? BTW, is "the" (in "the lading" ) strictly necessary? Sorry for taking so much of your time for a single translation, Lilian! I really appreciate your work.
| | | 30 svibanj 2008 15:31 | | | Hi ghasemkiani
Your sentence is perfectly correct. My suggestion was just because the interrogative form you used was questioned.
It's OK for me if you leave it as is.
For the article before "lading", yes, it's necessary since it's a noun. |
