Öleceğimi zannettiğim bir gündü. Uykusuz bir gece...

Öleceğimi zannettiğim bir gündü. Öncesinde, uykusuz bir gece geçirmiştim. Yorgundum.

It was a day I thought

It was a day I thought I was going to die. Before that, I’d had a sleepless night. I was tired. Now it was around noon. I left my office and was looking for a cheap place to have lunch. Crowded places were usually not my choice. I went quite far from my office. All of a sudden, I found myself in one of the neighborhoods where the lower class people lived, among youngsters with knives. Some people blocked my path. Their sharp eyes were turned against me. I thought I was going to die

hello silkworm
i had a few suggestions you could consider
maybe it should read just 'youngsters with knives' no 'the' since it's an undefined group
'some of them blocked my path'

oh yes thank you, you're right about the define article. I will edit it. to block one's path is a better choice as well, but I am not sure about translating as "some people " or "some of them" because I couldn't understand what's exactly meant by "birileri" and so I translated it like that. why didn't the narrator say "birkaçı" then?

yeah, thats true, birileri means somepeolpe
well i live in belguim and the turkish spoken here is sometimes grammatically 'wrong', i hear/use myself birileri used like that(some of them) althetime thats maybe why i interpreted like that
i didnt even notice till you just pointed it out...
