| | Before edition:
The fetter has been broken by being rasped with a file; but it is understood that it doesn't belong to one of the prisoners who have run away from the ship again at the same night; because it is the fetter which was rasped a long time ago.
Hi Handyy, please tell me if the edition changed in any way the original meaning, OK? |

| | Hi Lilian,
Actually, here present tense is used in the source text, that's why I used it. I think it is a piece of story, so present simple is used there. |

| | Hi handyy,
Since it took some time for you to answer my post, I set a poll for this translation. At the poll it got enough and only positive votes, so I thought it should be validated.
Don't you think it's accurate? If so, we can bring it back to evaluation and make the changes you think we should before setting a new poll for it.
What do you say? |

| | OK Lilian, I understand. Sorry again for my absence.
I think it must be in present tense. Is this accurate in terms of sequence of tenses? :
"The fetter has been broken using a file; but it is understood that it doesn't belong to one of the prisoners who have run away from the ship that same night; because it is a fetter which has been/was filed long time ago."

| | Well if you have to use present it should be:
The fetter has been broken using a file; but it is understood that it doesn't belong to one of the prisoners who ran away from the ship that same night; because it is a fetter which was filed long time ago."
