Eu nu plătesc nimic, este o înşelătorie
Text
Submitted by ionescu eugenia

I won’t pay anything, this is a fraud, if the taxes have to be paid, your client should do that.
Too bad I have wasted my time with correspondence.
I am a serious person; do you think Romanians are stupid?
Remarks about the translation
înşelătorie--fraud, scheme, scam
taxe--dues

Hi madeleine, could that "let your client pay them" mean : "make your client pay them"?

Hello, Lilian

"să le plătească"--the client is the one who should pay, in the opinion of the person who wrote the text.

"make your client pay them" is similar to "force him to pay them".

I didn't use "let" as in "give him permission".
I suppose you can also say : Your client is the one who has to pay them, not me.
(But the request is for "word by word" translation.)

I hope this helps.
Madeleine

yes, I understand your point, I just think that we have to get the most accurate version in English...maybe changing it to:
"if the taxes have to be paid, your client should do it." or something like that.
Sometimes a "word-to-word" translation is confusing in the target language. We may change some words or expressions in order to make things clear. See what I mean?

Why do you say the request is a word-to-word translation?

I agree with you now, Lilian. It is indeed just "meaning only"

So I could have felt free to adapt the text. My mistake.

"If the taxes have to be paid, your client should do it" sounds good to me. Perfect.

Thanks so much for your patience. I've noticed that, every time you have to evaluate a translation, you are nice to everybody and very, very polite.

Madeleine

Thanks a lot for your words Madeleine, I try to do my best.

I think a poll can be set now and I'm sure it will be accepted easily.

Good work!
