Turkish lira is old.
We have to say "new Turkish lira". (YTL= Yeni Türk Lirası)

Yes, in Turkish that's correct, but my question is whether people say that in English (I don't know). I'll do a bit of investigating and get back to you.

You are right, although I've seen it written several different ways (Turkey new lira, Turkish lira new, and new Turkish lira), but I'll pick the one you said, which is also grammatically correct in English.

Also, the abbreviation in English is apparently TRY.
