or a bit longer "omnia quae mihi necessaria sunt"
Do you remember "Omnia mea mecum porto", Alex?
Your "fero" isn't bad but I believe that "porto" would fit the meaning of the sentence better. "Fero" could be a bit ambiguous because it can be interpreted as "suffer" as well.
| | | 2011年 1月 10日 21:28 | | | Hi Aneta,
I have shortened "omnia quae mihi necessaria sunt" to "omnia necessaria" because I can see that Latin avoids very often the verb "to be" when it acts as a copula. I know we have to translate in the most literal way, but I thought (I dared think ) that my version would have sounded more Latin. Correct me if I am wrong, please.
I am sorry, but I still can't quote Cicero by heart, even if in this case it would have been helpful.
Definitely, "porto" is much more clear than "fero", so I agree with you.
| | | 2011年 1月 10日 22:23 | | | Dear Alex, you can shorten it, as I did above, to "omnia mihi necessaria", but you shouldn't omit "mihi" if you want to convey properly the meaning of "everything I need". | | | 2011年 1月 10日 22:41 | | | | | | 2011年 1月 10日 22:50 | | | I changed a word order a bit too. Hopefully you don't mind, dear Alex!
Semper mecum omnia mihi necessaria porto.
-->Semper omnia mihi necessaria mecum porto.
Vivat Cicero!
