As you said literally, but I know that Italians will use it as a "forma di cortesia" (e.g.vorrei un caffe, meaning to order something), and only as that. And no one nowhere in the world uses forma di cortesia with a loved one. This use of vorrei is not correct.Instead of saying vorrei ,not when you have to order something, they say avrei voluto.
Avrei voluto rivederti would be the correct Italian one for "θα ήθελα".
