"blessed thing" is a similar slang expression with the same meaning.

Thanks for the tip about "gemilerinmi". I'll change it.

"Gemilerin mi battı" is a question to ask why he or she is upset. It directly means: "What made you upset/sad?" It is originally: "Karadeniz'de gemilerin mi battı?" but these days, people use the places different and make some fun by asking why the other is not so happy.
