"Gemilerin mi battı" is a question to ask why he or she is upset. It directly means: "What made you upset/sad?" It is originally: "Karadeniz'de gemilerin mi battı?" but these days, people use the places different and make some fun by asking why the other is not so happy.

Bakırköy is a district in Istanbul and it is close to the Marmara Sea.
