| | कà¥à¤¯à¥‚ठ= कà¥à¤¯à¥‹à¤‚ and सही निरà¥à¤£à¤¯ means right decision. Better decision should be बेहतर निरà¥à¤£à¤¯ |

| drkppNombro da afiŝoj: 83 | I agree that a literal translation for Better decision is बेहतर निरà¥à¤£à¤¯ But not always a literal word to word translation is needed. Most of th etime the intended meaning of the sentence should be taken into account. Here better decision means proper decision, Thus सही निरà¥à¤£à¤¯ appears appropriate here. |

| | My logic here is that the expert sees someone else's translation, then sees what another person thinks of it, then he blends it with his own opinion and finally makes a decision. Since he already HAS an opinion and other's opinion are helping him improve on the quality, I would advocate in favor of बेहतर. |

| drkppNombro da afiŝoj: 83 | What somebody thinks or not, should not alter an expert's opinion. He is supposed to give an unbiased opinion of the sentence in question based on his knowledge & experience. This is what an expert is supposed to do. |

| | Hi guys,
This text is part of the various interfaces of the site.
Actually, what the community thinks may eventually change the expert's mind about a translation. That's why the other members are asked to help evaluate the translations.
An expert got that status because of his/her knowledge and reliability, but s/he is not infallible and should always respect other people's opinions, taking into account for a good evaluation, those that are worth considering.
@ Coldbreeze, you are the expert evaluating this translation, therefore if you think something must be edited, just do it.
@ drkpp, I'm glad you seem to be more active now.
I hope you will start doing what an expert is supposed to do. |
| | 19 Oktobro 2009 20:53 |
| | @lilian. Sure I could have edited it right away, but discussions are more fruitful. I dislike editing others work mercilessly.
And yes, that's the logic, we're not supposed to do a neat job always. And sometimes we know the thing, but it just doesn't strike our mind at that moment. And suggestions always help. Like I always run the text through google translate. In 90% of cases the translation is crap, but it does give some nice alternatives for words, and in some cases it even has a better version than mine! |
| | 19 Oktobro 2009 21:13 |
| | Of course discussions are always welcome, nobody here is supposed to act as a dictator!
BTW...don't always trust Google, rely on your own knowledge better.
Well...what will be done about that "better/ right" stuff
Have you two decided yet? |
| | 19 Oktobro 2009 22:22 |
| | Ah yes sure, I hope I'm more cool than a machine translator
Err...Actually its 2 am here. Drkpp isn't an insomniac like me. lol. But I hope this would be resolved soon, maybe tomorrow. |

| | Hello,
I couldn't help but read the discussion over the translation.
Coldbreeze16, you have stated something I really liked and I thought I would share it: it is about your point that "discussions are more fruitful" - a point that, generally speaking, not many understand nowadays. It is from discussions that - during the process of translating - words are "clothed" with the beautiful and irreproachable meanings they are ought to have in the other language.

| | :u Thanks for your comment Tzicu-Sem. You're of course right. When a sentence is translated, there's bound to be loss of quality. To minimize it we need to know all the aspects of the cultural variations between the two languages and their native speaker community. One person can't be omniscient. So discussions are always helpful. I hope drkpp gives a reply. And btw this one is an interesting one. I'd ask my dad and one of my friends for their suggestions. |

| | Namaskar,
I fully agree.
There aren't many users speaking Hindi on Cucumis, are there?
|
| | 20 Oktobro 2009 19:35 |
| | Of course not. Thats why I was asking lilian if it'd be a proper decision to promote me to an expert because then the actual translating process would be stalled. I guess there's no one Hindi speaking here besides me and drkpp, at least at the moment. |
| | 20 Oktobro 2009 20:14 |
| | Being an expert doesn't prevent you from doing translations, Coldbreeze.
You evaluate drkpp's and he evaluates yours |
| | 20 Oktobro 2009 20:24 |
| | If I can join your nice discussion a bit...
I agree with Coldbreeze16 that discussions are needed and very helpful.
I agree also with Lilly! There aren't many people who translate into Latin too. So, usually I and Efee make the translations and evaluate each other. It is not a problem at all I think...
Greetings to Hindi experts!!! |

| | Awww...thanks for letting me know lilian. I thought experts can't translate in the language they are expert in. :h
And a bucketful of warm wishes thanks to you Aneta for your compliments |

| | You're welcome... I believe we all should help and support each other in our team... |
| | 20 Oktobro 2009 21:18 |
| | Awww...thanks
@lilian. You know many other languages...he he. So you could have been working on them |
