I found this translation and just put it here for your consideration. I mean it makes as much sense as anything the way I see it
It's from "The Etymologies of Isidore of Seville" by Stephen A Barney

"The name 'Jew' can be translated as 'confessor', for confession catches up with many of those whom wrong belief possessed earlier"
