It's a quote from "American Pshycho". I guess the meaning is: hate is heavy/smth that we carry with us (e.g. in a trip)/ a burden/ an extra weight, smth like that. Probably there are other meanings for "baggage", or an explanation of the quote on the net, I haven't searched for it yet. ^.^

Just my opinion.

Anytime. I hope I got the meaning right.
Hate is smth that burdens our life actually, an extra weight "on our shoulders" (a heavy load of feelings) that isn't worth "carrying it" in our short lifetime.

Why take baggage when the "trip" is a short one?
