Hi Aneta, could you confirm this bridge?

"The demon couldn't cause much harm to the clergy, except for assigning to it reckless serves."

Hi Lilly, I would rather say:

"The devil/demon couldn't cause to the clergy worse harm than to give it completely negligent servants"

=The worst harm what demon can cause to the clergy is just giving it negligent servants. (meaning)

Hi Aneta,

I changed a bit the words in order to keep the rhyme of the original, in Portuguese. You know that's not an easy task when translating

Anyway, I think the meaning was kept, wasn't it?

Why did you use "worse"? Isn't it "much"?

"plura mala" actually means "more bad things" (literally), but I translated it by "worse harm", because it is the best interpretation of the words here I believe.

When I compare our versions I can see a crucial diffrence, dear. From yours "The demon couldn't cause much harm to the clergy, except for assigning to it reckless serves." I could deduce that the demon cannot cause much harm! Meanwile he is able a lot! And the worse harm what he can do is just giving negligent servants to the clergy.
Yes, not an easy task when translating... Sorry for my English.

It also can be read this way:
"Demon couldn't harm the clergy more than by giving negligent servants to it".

<edit> cannot --> couldn't (past tense!)

Uff! I hope so.

To be precise I should add that the second part literally starts:

..., than when he gave...

But, we don't have to translate literally, do we?
