Yıldızların görünmediği zamanlarda yıldız yoktur.
Söylemem.
Sevdiklerime ulaşamıyorsam, ulaştıklarımı sevmeye çalışmayacağım.
Gece bulut yoktur.
Öyleyse o gün bugündür.

There are no stars when stars cannot be seen.
I won't say it.
If I can't be with the ones I love, I won't try to love the ones I'm with.
There are no clouds at night.
If that's the way it is, that day is today.

Hi Hazal

I think it would be better if we say
"If I can't get/reach whom I like/love, I won't try to like/love whom I have reached/ whom I can reach."
as I think "sevdiklerim" is used for the people he loves. (family, friends etc..)

There are no stars when we can't see any.->
"No stars exist/ There are no stars when they cannot be seen."

Hi Cheesecake,

Thank you for the corrections.
You're right for the second one but I think both translations are right for the first one because when someone says "sevdiklerim", we immediately think he's talking about the people he loves. But here, by "sevdiklerim", he could also mean "sevdiÄŸim ÅŸeyler"(the things I like).
So I think we should add the second option in the remarks field.

And a just small typing mistake in the last line, I wrote "that day it today" insead of "that day is today". I would be happy if you corrected it, Lilian.

"there is no star" and "there is no cloud" may be the right translation, because these are stated as singular in the source text. And "reach" should replace the word "get".

I would say, "If I can't be with the ones I love, I won't try to love the ones I'm with," although this is ambiguous in Turkish. It's not clear whether it's a thing or a person that is loved, and it's not clear whether it's loved or liked, so this presents a conundrum of sorts.

Cheesecake, I disagree with you regarding your re-translation of "Gece bulut yoktur" - I think that it should stand as "There are no clouds at night." It's not necessary to interpret that - it was worded poetically and the figurative meaning can be understood in English. That said, "clouds" has to be plural in English because it's a general statement of fact. The rules for pluralization are different in Turkish and English, and that's the reason why, so ...

There are no stars when stars cannot be seen.
I won't say it.
If I can't be with the ones I love, I won't try to love the ones I'm with.
There are no clouds at night.
If that's the way it is, that day is today.

Note: I changed "so" to "if that's the way it is" for clarity and grammar.
