עסאן כנפאני (غسان كنفاني) 1936-1972 סופר ומחזאי פלסטינאי יליד עכו שם התחנך בבית ספר קתולי, בשנת 1948 ברח עם משפחתו מעכו ללבנון ולאחר מכן לסוריה בעקבות הנכבה. לאחר לימודי התיכון קיבל תעודת הוראה מ UNRWA ובתוך כך התחיל בלימודי ספרות ערבית באוניברסיטת דמשק, אך סולק מן האוניברסיטה לפני סיום התואר משום שהיה פעיל בתנועות פן ערביות. משם עבר לכווית שם עבד כמורה ועיתואי. בשנת 1961 חזר כנפאני לביירות הפעם כאיש רוח ידוע. בביירות גברה
