"Peace be upon you" is not a common phrase in Brazil, at least not that I know of. A-Salaam Alaykum is more like a greeting and I don't know if it should be translated literally into Portuguese.

"Olá, tudo bem?" or "Oi. Como vai?" are probably what the writer is trying to convey in Arabic.
