About the context of the text, is it a religious saying? Is "dependent" adjective used as an opposite of being faithful?

No, it is not a religious saying. "Dependent" and "faithful" are not opposite either. In the Turkish version of the text, you see the two words (
bağlı
and
bağımlı
) are really similar to each other. I guess that's why these words were choosen.
