Fáilte has its source in the idea of rejoicing.
To welcome someone in Irish the following sentence is used a lot:
Céad mÃle fáilte (romhat)!: A hunderd thousand welcomes (before you).
romhat: combination of 'roimh' (before) and 'tú' (you).
