The citizens of Tallinn, the Estonian capital, have been forced for the past six months to buy extra alcoholic beverages. Most Estonians have drink supplies at home - in case of unexpected guests or an invitation somewhere. Over the past six months the Tallinners have had to get used to the idea that if one wants a beer after dinner and there is none in the house, there won't be any in the shops either, not until the next morning.

Hi Ollka,

I don't read Lithuanian, but the sentence:
"...the Tallinners had to make peace with the idea that if one..." sounds estrange.

Could that be :
"...the Tallinners have had to get used to idea that if one..." ?

It's "make peace" in Lithuanian, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to change it to "get used to"

"Over the past six months..." demands the use of Present Perfect in English, so it should read:
"...the Tallinners have had to get used to..."

and perhaps "until the next morning" would be better.

What do you think?
