I'm Defying Gravity | Remarks about the translation | Quero usar esta frase em uma tatuagem, mas em Latim. Não encontro tradução para o verbo to Defy, nem tampouco consigo decliná-lo para o gerúndio. Obrigado. I'd like to use this sentence in a tattoo design, only in Latim. I've had trouble translating the verb to Defy and to make it gerund. Thanks! |

Gravitatem provoco. | Remarks about the translation | The construction to be + -ing doesn't exist in Latin. It has to be translated with the simple present. |

devincere= to defeat completely, win the day...
So I suggest replacing "devinco" with one of the following Latin verbs: contemnere, spernere, adversari (+dat.), provocare, lacessere.
What do you think? | | | 18 Tháng 9 2010 00:00 | | | Great! Thanks, Efylove and Aneta!
In the context of Defying Gravity, challenging and provoking gravity seems more appropriate then defeating completely.
Which verb is best and how would it be in the sentence?
Adversari and Provocare are nice because they would be immediatelly understood by portuguese speakers here in Brazil.
(Thanks again. I took one year Latin back in college, but all I can remember is 'Magistra asin est' ) | | | 18 Tháng 9 2010 09:28 | | | You're welcome!
